The first Jayhawk logo that was officially recognized by the University of Kansas was introduced by Henry Maloy and originally appeared in the University Daily Kansan on October 28, 1912. Maloy stated that he didn't even think of the term Jayhawker as a bird and instead drew a bulldog to represent the school's football team.
